11th Commandment – Girls Shalt Not Play Sports

Apparently when Moses found the 10 commandments, he missed the third giant rock that told folks they should not let girls play sports with boys.  But thankfully for America, a school in Arizona happened to find that tablet and are keeping sports free of those pesky females.  Can I get a Hail Mary?

Our Lady of Sorrows (they are sorry that’s for sure) forfeited the state championship game because the opposing team had a girl starting at second base.  She had sat out their previous two games against this opponent out of respect for their beliefs, but (obviously) did not want to miss out on the state championship game.  Her school does not offer softball for girls so this was her only way to play the sport in a scholastic setting.

I feel like I have a billion things to say about this, but I’m so flabbergasted I can’t keep my thoughts organized.  First of all, baseball is pretty non-contact (except for when base runners try to kill catchers running to home – which is a complete joke – but that’s another story).  It’s not like this is wrestling, football, or basketball where there is the chance for physical contact in possibly uncomfortable ways.  Are they afraid these boys might be running from first to second and be so overcome with hormones they will jump her on the way?  Are they afraid this temptress in a baggy jersey and baseball hat will distract them at the plate?  I mean what they hell is the big concern here?

And if according to this “Boys Rule, Girls Drool” religion, she can’t play sports with boys, what is appropriate for girls then?  Baseball practice is for boys only – girls head off to Room 225 for lessons on vacuuming while wearing pearls at 2:45 and then straight off to Pot Roast for Dummies at 4:00.  For the nightcap it is “How to ensure you get pregnant…tonight! (since apparently the only thing females are good for is having armies of children).  Is that the only thing we offer the world?  Are women allowed to have jobs?  Drive Cars? Vote? Is it okay that I even have an opinion about this?  Probably not.

I just don’t understand any kind of religion, movement, political party etc that is so freaking rigid that you can’t treat people as humans – with feelings and rights – just because of their skin color, orientation, or whether they pee standing or sitting.  I suppose you can respect people for having their faith and living it and never wavering, but I’ve always really hated that excuse.  It’s like a guy who murders someone then tells the truth about it thinking we should congratulate him for not lying….You still murdered someone you jerk!  And just because you stand by a religion that discriminates doesn’t make what you believe any more acceptable.  If Jesus were alive today, I doubt he’d be high fiving these ridiculous folks for not including a girl, he’d probably be pissed that his plans of taking in the state tourney were cancelled because some humans decided to twist religion to fit their preferences.

Good for this young lady for standing up for herself and her right to play in the tournament – shame on Our Lady of Sorrows….they were probably just afraid of losing to a girl anyway….
